Thanks for stopping by the blog. My name is Ken Braddy and I believe in the ministry of Sunday school and other kinds of small groups that help people build community, study the Bible, and experience spiritual transformation.
I created my blog to share my leadership and experience with you. It doesn’t matter when or where your group meets, or what you call your groups ministry – this blog exists to serve you. I currently post 5 times per week.
My Groups Leadership Background
I provided leadership as the Education Pastor at a new church startup in Texas. The church began with 44 people in Bible study on launch Sunday. I had the privilege of leading the groups ministries and guiding it to grow to over 2,400 members during my 10 years there. I served another church for 8 years in the same kind of ministry before joining the leadership team at LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, TN., in March 2010.
My wife and I have led many kinds of groups over the years. We’ve taught 4, 6, 8, and 12-week studies at our church and in our home. When I was on church staff, there was a time when the discipleship ministry for which I provided oversight had 500+ men, women, students, and children in small groups each week. I’ve also discipled people in smaller one-on-one and one-on-two type groups.
My Recent Group Leadership Experience
From 2012 through 2017 I was a Bible study leader like you. My wife and I began a new Sunday School class (LIFE Group) at our church in October 2012. Our group launched with just 3 people committed to come, and my wife and I were 2/3 of that crowd! Today, the group has a weekly attendance of 16-18 people. Although my current church leadership role has recently changed, my former group is in good hands with a new leader, and it continues to be a strong Bible study group full of people who love the Lord, love each other, and serve inside the church and outside the walls of the church.
My Current Church Leadership Role
In January 2019 I began serving as a part-time Minister of Education to Fair Haven Baptist Church in Shelbyville, TN. Since affiliating with this church in a leadership capacity, the pastor and I have worked together to lead the church to start a second worship service and Sunday School hour, start new Bible study groups, and begin a year-round training plan for all of the church’s group leaders. I also wrote the content for a new members’ class, and our first one had 31 participants in February 2018. The average attendance in this Sunday School has increased 100 people this past year as we have applied basic growth principles to the Sunday School.
My Day Job
I serve as the Manager of Adult Ongoing Bible Studies at LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, TN. I guide the work of the editorial teams that create all of the ongoing Bible studies that LifeWay produces for adults. Bible Studies For Life, Explore The Bible, MasterWork, The Gospel Project, YOU, and other curriculum are under my leadership. Through my ministry at LifeWay, and the hard work of the men and women on my team, we have the privilege of serving the Bible study needs of approximately 2.5-3 million adults each week. I also travel and train on the topics of Sunday school, groups, and general church leadership.
I have co-authored 5 books on Sunday School/groups ministry and contributed chapters to other books on Sunday school, small groups, and leadership. I have just completed the manuscript for a new solo book on Sunday School and how to use 12 essential principles to bring health and vitality to any Sunday School.
I have written numerous leadership articles for all of LifeWay’s major lines of Bible study curriculum. In addition, I have crafted articles for Sunday School Leader Magazine, Facts & Trends Magazine, Deacon Magazine, Open Windows devotional, and Stand Firm devotional for men. I also regularly create Bible studies for my friends at smallgroup.com.
Recently, I was given the additional responsibility of managing LifeWay’s trainers, who travel the country and equip church staff and lay leaders in the most effective practices for growing the church’s Sunday School/groups ministries.
My Education Background
I am pursuing a Doctor of Educational Ministry (DEdMin) degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO. I expect to graduate in Fall 2019.
Workshops & Training
I have led hundreds of workshops and conferences around the country. I speak to groups of pastors, church staff, and leaders of Bible study groups. If your group leaders are in need of encouragement and training, I’d love to visit with you about coming to your location. In a typical year, I provide training events at 20-24 churches or other locations.
